Speaker Suraj Adekunbi of the Ogun House of Assembly on Saturday appealed to leaders to mobilise women for more participation in governance politics in the interest of national development.

Adekunbi made the appeal during a visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) women leaders in Ogun East Senatorial District at Ago-Iwoye in Ijebu North LGA.

The speaker said that women had the capacity to contribute much to the development of any society.

Adekunbi said that women had given much support to the Mr Ibikunle Amosun-led administration in Ogun, adding that the support helped the administration to succeed.

He solicited the support of women in ensuring the sustainability of the legacies of the administration.

The speaker said that the administration’s belief in active women participation in governance was evident in its allocation of 35 per cent of public offices to women.

Adekunbi reiterated the state government’s commitment to women empowerment and gender equality.

He said that the administration laid a formidable foundation for transformation of the state through all-inclusive and people-oriented governance.

The speaker also said that the support of the state legislature contributed much to the success of the administration.

Responding, the Leader of the women group, Mrs Oyinkansola Cole, called for more appointment of women in government at all levels to enhance good governance.

She lauded Amosun for including more women in his cabinet, and gave the assurance that women in the state would continue to support the government in its efforts to rebuild the state.

The speaker is aspiring for the state governorship seat on the platform of the APC.
