Jos—FOLLOWING renewed attacks and killings in some local government areas of Plateau State, the Defense Headquarters has sent a team of its officers on a fact-finding mission to the state to assess the situation that led to loss of lives and properties in the affected communities.

Chief of Training and Operation, Defense Headquarters, Major-Gen. Ahmed Mohammed, who led the team said the mission is aimed at finding a lasting solution to the problem.

Speaking at the weekend in Jos at a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the team, which had religious bodies, civil society organisations, security agencies and the affected communities in attendance, Major-Gen. Mohammed said: “This is the first time a team is coming from the Defense  Headquarters to actually find out the root cause of the problem between the warring communities.

It is also a fact-finding visit that will be used to appraise the performance of security agencies on ground, seeking to know if they are really doing what is expected of them and if there are other things we need to do to make them more potent.”

While assuring that the Army would mobilize all within its power to ensure that the civil unrest bedeviling the state was brought to a halt, he urged stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies and among themselves to see that peace returns to the state.

Earlier, the Director-General, Plateau Peace Building Agency, Mr. Joseph Lengmang, commended the Defence Headquarter for its efforts at finding lasting solution to the myriads of problems in the state, saying it would reassure the people that government was working hard to get to the root of the problem.
