PDP charges INEC, security agencies on credible election

By Dirisu Yakubu

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as security agencies not to interface in the conduct of today’s governorship election in Anambra State.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the party expressed its preparedness for the polls, urging the electoral umpire to remain apolitical in the conduct of the exercise.

“The PDP is prepared and ready for the the Saturday November 18, 2017 governorship election in Anambra State; and we are charging the officials of INEC and security agencies deployed for the election to be neutral in the conduct of the election.

“The Anambra State governorship election is a litmus test for INEC and another opportunity for the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), to redeem itself from the culture of impunity, inconclusive elections and rigging as exhibited in previous elections in Edo, Ondo and other by-elections in the country,” the statement read in part.

The statement also condemned last week withdrawal of Governor Willie Obiano’ s security personnel, adding that the move was intended to put “some individuals” at a vantage position.
