The project, which is expected to be completed in December 2018, was initially handled by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, before Governor Dickson asked the commission to hands off the project due to the slow pace of work.

The tour climaxed at the riverside town of Aleibiri, where its spokesman, Chief Oyarede, told the governor and his entourage that though the road project was conceived in 1979 during the Second Republic under Chief Melford Okilo, no administration was able to execute it until the Dickson’s government took up challenge.
