Super Eagles midfielder, John Obi Mikel has expressed his sheer delight to be the captain of the team that defeated Zambia yesterday to qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Nigeria are the first African team to qualify for next year’s  World Cup, courtesy of a fine strike by Alex Iwobi yesterday at the Godswil Akpabio stadium.

Speaking at the post match conference, the former Chelsea man said the Eagles were made to work extra hard to reach their target.

“It was not easy as Zambia came prepared to stop us but we rose to the demand of the night to achieve our goal.

“I am extremely honoured to be the captain of this great team. The boys were truly amazing and working with them has been a truly amazing ride and now it’s time to celebrate”, added Mikel
