THE newly appointed caretaker chairman of Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Mr. Oforji Oboku, has lamented that he met an empty treasury when he assumed office at the council secretariat, yesterday. He was reappointed by Governor Seriake Dickson, last week.

Oboku, who disclosed this to newsmen shortly after the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Ovie Nado, officially handed over to him, said the development was not healthy and must be stopped if the local government must deliver on its mandate to the people.

The council boss who was among the five caretaker chairmen reappointed by the governor after they were dissolved three months ago, said: “We inherited an empty treasury when we were first appointed but when we were leaving we left the account with over N4 million to strengthen the council.”

He, however, said solicited the cooperation of the people, saying he would pay more attention to infrastructure development and staff welfare depending on the availability of funds.
