ABUJA—THE Federal Government yesterday said it has not foreclosed the registration of the United Labour Congress, ULC, as a labour centre, saying the process for registration was on.

This is as the ULC has announced the suspension of the strike it declared on Monday after meeting with the Federal Government Negotiation Team.

Briefing State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa Abuja, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, said the conditionalities for registration of a labour centre was contained on the Trade Union Act, 2004, adding that government would not deny the registration, if the conditionalities were met.

Senator Ngige said members of the yet-to-be registered ULC work in critical sectors of the economy and should not be neglected in their agitations in order not to put the economy in a critical condition.

The minister also said he could not remember describing ULC as an illegal union.
