The leadership of the The leadership of the  National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has described  the gunmen attack on St Phillips Catholic Church,Ozubulu in Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State, as barbaric, heinous and sacrilege. In a statement signed by its National President, Kamal’deen Akuntunde,

NACOMYO  stated that church or a worship place should not be a place to settle scores or ‘take a pound of flesh ‘ over a row or disagreement between groups or persons. It noted that worship centres  are sanctuaries that guarantee safety, protection,succour and peace, and therefore should never be invaded or attacked under any guise or pretext.According to NACOMYO, sacrilegious crime which has become a recurring decimal in the country was indicative of ‘end time’, urging government and Police to swing into action and fish out those behinde the crime.

It enjoined headship of religious places to take proactive initiatives, including mounting of close-circuit television, CCT and other security devices that would check such incident.NACOMYO opined that the Boko Haram experience should necessitate a proactive approach in preventing such occurrences.The youth Muslim group charged worshippers and especially elders and leaders to be conscious of their private undertakings and deeds as they would not be the only persons who would bear the consequences of their actions and inactions. It advised parents and guardians to take interest in their children’s indoor and outdoor engagements to avoid the family from being ridiculed or the children constituting a nuisance and menace to the society.
