Sunshine Stars coach, Duke Udi has said he is on a mission to help the club escape relegation as the matches of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) enter the home stretch.

There is a heightened optimism in the camp of Sunshine after they beat Rivers United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt with Ezekiel Thompson scoring the only goal with a beautiful strike. As they face El-Kanemi today in Ijebu-Ode, Udi stated that Sunshine will fight till the last game to avoid the drop.

“We will continue to fight to beat the drop until the final whistle of the season is blown, and God willing, we will remain in the top flight next season,” the former Super Eagles player told npfl.ng.

“But now we must turn our concentration to the next game which is at home.

“We have not forgotten what happened to us after we won in Ilorin against ABS, we returned home and lost to Nasarawa United. We are fully concentrating on the next game,” Udi said.

Sunshine Stars are 15h on the log with 39 points, their remaining fixtures include today’s home match against El  Kanemi (home), Wikki (away), Akwa United (home), Rangers (away), Niger Tornadoes (home), Katsina United (away), FC Ifeanyiubah (home) and Remo Stars (away).

The other clubs seeking safety from the relegation zone are Rivers United, Shooting Stars, ABS, Gombe United and Remo Stars who are rock bottom with 29 points.

Plateau United away to Lobi Stars are still topping the league with 54 points. MFM Fc with 49 points are in close pursuit.
