*Gov says God saved PDP because of Rivers State

IT was clear that Gov-ernor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State turned into a prayer warrior while the legal battle between Senator Ahmed Markafi and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff for the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lasted in court.

The governor gave this indication during a thanksgiving in Port Harcourt to celebrate the victory of Markafi at the apex court when he drummed it before his party members that only those who had faith in God had hope in life. “ If you don’t have faith in God, then you have no hope in life”, he stressed.

The victory of Markafi at the Supreme Court certainly meant so much to the governor. According to him, Rivers was the only state without plan B while the legal fireworks dragged on, meaning that he had all his political future, particularly for 2019, in the embattled PDP’s basket. He said his opponents were aware of this; so they started mocking, saying they would see which platform he would use to contest in 2019 when his faction of the PDP led by Markafi lost at the appeal court.

“It was the same day I got an award in Lagos that Sheriff got judgment.  APC leaders were happy that they would want to see where we would contest elections. The same God that did it for us in January 2016 is the same God that has done it again. Let us have faith in God “, he stated.

An elated Wike clutched the microphone tightly as he told the story of the significance of Markafi’s victory to the state . “ God saved PDP because of Rivers State. We are the only state without plan b”, he said.

Smiling at the newly built ecumenical centre by his administration for the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, where the thanksgiving held, the governor said “ victory is sweet”, adding that God almighty will continue to put his political opponents to shame.
