Ambode trains Lagos public servants, preaches transformational leadership

Over  200 civil servants in Lagos State have  undergone business leadership training to  enable them confront the challenges relating to their  work and compete with their  counterparts in developed countries. Governor  Akinwunmi Ambode, who was represented by  the Commissioner, Lagos State Ministry of Establishment, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson Oke encouraged the civil servants during the training session  to imbibe the qualities of transformational leadership, saying it is more effective, because the key factor may be trust.

He said: “Transformational leaders express great levels of concern for people’s well being, and appeal to people values, followers are more likely to believe that leader has a trustworthy character.

“For instance, a management  which proposes that the type of relationship leaders have with their followers is the key to understanding how leaders influence employees. The leaders forms a trust-based relationship with the members, the leader and member like each other, help each other when needed, and respect one another.”

The programme was tagged: ‘Integrating Contemporary Business Leadership into the Corporate Governance Model of the Lagos State Civil Service’.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Establishment, Mrs Folashade Ogunaike, said: “We gather you here as ambassadors for Lagos State  and we hope that you will assimilate what you are going to learn here,  internalise what you will learn and download it and past it to your peers who are not opportune to come and your subordinates.”
