Abuja—National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to postpone Osun West Senatorial bye-election, scheduled for July 8.

Sheriff gave the advice in a statement issued by his acting spokesperson, Mr Bernard Mikko, yesterday  in Abuja.

He said that PDP’s attention had been drawn to “subterranean efforts” of the Government of Osun to precipitate the postponement of the bye-election from July 8, to a preferred and pre-determined date.

He recalled that INEC had at a meeting of stakeholders, assured all the political parties that the July 8 date for the bye-election was irrevocably sacrosanct.

Sheriff added INEC represented by its Director of Administration in the state, Mr Emmanuel Ademusire, at the meeting, also announced the deployment of five commissioners to oversee the election.

Sheriff expressed hope that INEC would not yield to any blackmail to shift the date of the election.

As APC campaign train storms Iwo communities

Meantime, with a days to the conduct of the Osun West Senatorial By-election, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the July 8 by-election, Senator Mudashir Husain has said that he was vying to return to the senate to consolidate on the good governance which his party is known for.

This was  as the campaign train of the party witnessed mammoth crowd in all the communities visited in Iwo Federal Constituency yesterday.

The Osun West Senatorial seat became vacant at the National Assembly following the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke who was until his death representing the district.

Husain who was quoted in a statement by his Media Aide, Kamil Mudashir Opeyemi,  as saying his mission to return to the senate is hinged on the need to sustain the good legacies which his party had laid over the years.
