NDLEA launches manhunt for fleeing woman-drug baron in Kwara

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kwara State has launched a manhunt for a fleeing suspected woman-drug baron in Omuaran after escaping through the window of her residence in the midnight as detectives approached to arrest her.

The Commandant of NDLEA in the state, Ona Ogilegwu, expressed shock at the activities of the woman  during a press conference to mark the 2017 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse.

Ogilegwu expressed worry over the rising cases of women in illegal drug trade in the state, saying 166 suspects were arrested   in the last one year,while 10 of them were convicted.

He explained that 40 drug dependent persons were rehabilitated and reunited with their families, adding that 112 people who used drugs were counselled.

He also said that marijuana remained the drug mostly abused by youths and adults in the state, adding that new psychoactive drugs with equally dangerous consequences were commonly abused by both males and females. For example, according to him, are amphetamine, tramadol, and codeine containing cough syrup are mostly abused by students.
