LAGOS—An engineer with BHS International Limited, Sanmi Ige, was, yesterday morning, killed by gunmen at his Ebute-Meta residence in Lagos, while a 70-year-old woman was also injured by the gunmen.

Vanguard gathered that the robbers, numbering 10, stormed the one-storey building on 2, Herbert Macaulay Street, at about 4a.m. They broke into late Ige’s landlady’s apartment, where they reportedly hit her son with a cutlass.

On how Ige died, a source said he was shouting “please, why are you doing this to me.” He was also begging them to take everything, but the laptop. Sanmi reportedly followed them downstairs, naked, begging them to give him back his laptop.

He knelt down and told them to take every other thing but his laptop. One of the robbers shot him in the head.

An occupant of the affected building, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said: “They also went away with his television, phones and money. We suspect they could have used a master key to open the gate.

“When they came in, they told us to be quiet, threatening to spill blood if anyone violates their directive. Thereafter, they locked us inside, after collecting our phones.

“We were inside when we heard gunshots. By the time we rushed downstairs, engineer was in a pool of his blood, dead.”

Policemen from Denton Division, who were contacted, stormed the scene and removed the corpse. But when contacted, spokesman for Lagos State Police Command, Olarinde Famous-Cole, promised to reach Vanguard later.
