Two persons were feared dead, yesterday, in a lone accident involving a private car in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The occupants of the ill-fated vehicle, with number plate SMK 435 EH, a male driver and its female passenger, were reported to be travelling from Abeokuta towards Sagamu, before losing control at Obafemi Junction.

The car somersaulted to the other side of the road, with the victims flung out. The driver was said to have sustained injuries, while the female passenger died on the spot. Both were taken to the General Hospital, Ijaye.

The driver reportedly died afterwards.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the development to Vanguard, implored motorists to fasten their seatbelts while driving.

He said: “The incident was as a result of over-speeding, which led to loss of control and eventual somersaulting. The car landed on the other lane, facing vehicles coming inward Abeokuta. We are, therefore, imploring motorists to please fasten their seatbelt always.”
