BENIN CITY – GOVERNOR Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has vowed to make the Tayo Akpata University of Education, Ekiadolor a world class university as he takes over the responsibility to chairing the committee that will bring the master plan of the university into fruition.
He has put September this year as deadline for the completion of the project which he said will be a world class university that will attract people outside. The Pro Chancellor of the university and former Speaker of the Edo state House of Assembly, Thomas Okosun is also a member of the committee.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Obaseki, said his administration has reviewed the state of the university and had concluded plans to uplift its standard so that people will no longer go outside the state in search of schools blessed with modern teaching equipment and facilities.
He said, “For me I think we could do better in terms of planning. We are benchmarking ourselves by national standards, but we should be looking at it from a global standard. Let us put in more resources and set up a project team to up the game. We observed that the master plan earlier given did not make provision for expansion in future so we had to adjust it to make provision for that.
“We are also talking to investors to come and invest in our educational institutions because that will not only uplift the standard of our schools and create employment for our people, it will increase our IGR and bring development to communities where this institutions are erected”.
Commending the governor, Okosun said, “If every governor works the way you are doing for Edo State, Nigeria will be a better place. We will support you to make Edo great. We appreciate your dedication for this university and we want to assure you that all hands will be on deck to achieve the completion date”.
