ABUJA: The Alliance for Democracy, AD, has denied merger talks with any political parties.

The party in a statement by its National Auditor, Ismail Ayodele, yesterday, in Abuja, said there was no provision for merger in the AD Constitution.

The AD was apparently reacting to reports that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and several other political parties have agreed to constitute a broad based political opposition, known as United Forum of Democrats.

It was reported the forum is made up of the leadership of PDP, People’s Redemption Party, PRP, Social Democratic Party, SDP, Alliance for Democracy, AD, Accord Party, among other political parties.

But while reacting, the AD said, “National leadership of the Party is not in any merger talk with any Political Party or Parties and has no intention whatsoever to merger any Political Party.

“The AD Constitution has no provision for merger. The Party shall at all times maintain its progressive ideology and identity.

“However, AD can be in alliance with like-minded Political Parties with a view to winning elections and implementing people-oriented manifesto of the Party.

“AD disowns any person or persons who claim to represent the Party in any merger talk as they don’t have the Party’s mandate to do so.”
