PORT HARCOURT—ALL Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday hosted acting President Yemi Osibanjo to another stakeholders forum in Port Harcourt, during which the acting President assured that the Federal Government would deliver on its promises to  Nigerians, urging members of the party to shun violence. “Our party, the APC, is going to achieve everything it said it would achieve.”

The party members had complained that they were denied expression at a similar event on Monday at Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

While harping on the need for members to  promote  peace in the state, the acting President said in Lagos, some of them in power today were in opposition for 16 years.

“Those of us who came from Lagos were in opposition for 16 years. We know the suffering of those in opposition. But the scriptures say that weeping may endure for a night,” he said.

He again reaffirmed that the Federal Government was not going back on the  implementation of the United Nations Environmental Progremme, UNEP, report on Ogoni, saying, “Anybody who knows President Muhamadu Buhari  knows that he is a man of his words.”

He said what the Federal Government had done on the East-West Road in the last 18 months was more than what was done in the last six or seven years, assuring that the Federal Government was committed to the Lagos Calabar rail project.

Chairman of the party in the state,   Dr Davies Ikanya, who spoke earlier, said they had to organise the special stakeholders  forum after the one on Monday at Government House, Port Harcourt, because most of those  in opposition were allegedly shut out from making presentations.

He enjoined the Federal Government to mop up illegal arms in circulation in the state and the region as part of measures to achieve enduring peace.

“We were shut out on Monday from the Government House event. Some traditional rulers were shut out also. Because you are a democrat, you allowed us to interact with you as a democrat,” he said.

Some of those at the event were the Minister of  Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Usani; Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr Nsima Ekere; Minister of  Transportation, Mr Chibuike Amaechi; Senator Magnus Abe and Director-General, NIMASA, Dr Dakuku Peterside, among others.
