Cricket lovers across Edo State are in for a swell time as the 2016/2017 league season has been declared open with a blitz of shots in grand style by the Chairman, Edo State Cricket Association (ESCA), Mr. Uyi Akpata.

As part of activities to mark the event, which took place over the weekend, Saturday, January 28, 2017, a ceremonial match was played between the Chairman’s eleven (11) team captained by Theophilus Ibodeme and the State eleven (11) side captained by Osasu Agbonwanegbe.

At the end of the highly entertaining match played at the cricket pitch of Edo Boys High School, Ugbowo, Benin City, the Chairman’s team defeated the State selected side by six (6) wickets in close finish.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chairman of ESCA and Chief Host of the occasion Mr. Uyi Akpata, affirmed the resolve of the Association to organize a hitch-free season, while assuring that his EXCO is poised to taking the game of cricket to the next level.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the league Committee who doubles as the Vice Chairman of ESCA, Oviawe Abraham (Esq.), noted that the committee members were determined to succeed in order to actualize their set target for the season.
