Britain to assist Nigerian military

The Royal British Army on Friday expressed its readiness to assist the Nigerian military in training and capacity building.

Brig.-Gen. Charles Calder, the Defence Adviser to the UK in Nigeria, made the announcement when he visited Brig.-Gen. Victor Ezugwu, Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Maiduguri.

Calder said that the British Government would expand its training assistance to all Nigerian Army training institutions.

The defence adviser was quoted in a statement signed by the spokesman of the division, Lt.-Col. Kingsley Samuel.

He said the support was aimed at bringing insurgency in the North East to an end.

Ezugwu commended the British Government for its previous support and training given by the British Military Assistance Training Team.
