Apapa customs command nets N299.9 bn last year

THE Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated a total sum of N299.9 billion from all its activities in 2016 despite the global economic downturn which sharply led to the decline in the volume of cargoes imported into the country through the Port during the period.

Statistics collated at the Command showed that import duty accounted for the largest sum of N139.680 billion recorded during the period followed by collection from 5 per cent value added tax (VAT) which grossed N67.725 billion , grain , N21.066 billion , comprehensive import supervision scheme(CISS) , N18.076 billion and CET, N 16.517 billion.

Other collections include ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme(ETLS) , N10.051 billion, seven per cent SUR ,N9.778 billion five per cent sugar levy , N7.619 billion, rice, N6.152 billion , Fees and Others N2.247 billion,NESS levy , N359.758million, , iron levy N353.296 million , cement levy, N219.906 million , two per cent National Automotive Council Levy , N83.334 million, wheat flour, N17.315 million and cigar levy , N5.770 million.

Investigation also showed that on the basis of analysis of revenue realized on a monthly basis, a total sum of N23.475 billion was recorded in January, N19.756 billion in February , N18.477 billion in March , N19.256 billion in April , N17.203 billion in May and N22.796 billion in June.

Additionally, A sum of N27.380 billion was recorded in july, N34.923 billion in August , N32.947 million in September , N27.756 billion in October , N28.667 billion in November and N27.312 billion in December.
