THE Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike, stimulated the feelings of the people of Ekpeye Kingdom, Ahoada East, weekend, when he flagged-off, weekend,   the construction of Edeoha/Ikata. Ochigba road, leading to the country home of the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Development of the state

Addressing the people of Ekpeye kingdom at the flag-off ceremony,   the governor told them that he personally promised Hon Nwuche during the 2015 election campaigns that he would construct the road to his Ochigba country home, allegedly abandoned by his predecessor, Hon Rotimi Amaechi, because he (Nwuche) was then in the PDP and supported Wike’s election.

Noting that though Nwuche had left PDP for APC, the same party with Amaechi, now Minister of Aviation, Wike said that he was not perturbed and remained committed to the promise, assuring that his government would not play politics with development of the state, irrespective of any political party anybody belongs to.

The people of Ekpeye kingdom, who were touched by the governor’s pragmatism, commended him for his doggedness and urged Nwuche to return to the PDP.

President General of Ekpeye Youth Congress, Dan Igbudu, advised Nwuche to leave the APC, as indications have emerged that his recent travails in the hands of security agencies over phantom contract sums were instigated by a top leader of the party in the state to pull him down.

Igbudu stated: “Ekpeye as it stands now is entirely a PDP tribe and that given Nwuche’s position as the political leader of the Ekpeye people, it is necessary that he remains in the same fold with the Ekpeye people for a purposeful leadership.”

Also Speaking, a PDP stalwart in the area, Chief Gowon Okoko, expressed the appreciation of the entire Ekpeye people over the actions taken by the governor in recent times to massively develop Ekpeye land.

He lauded the governor for putting his words to action, pointing out that few days ago, he donated a Coaster bus to Ekpeye Youth Congress and upgraded the Igbu Akoh traditional stool to second class status, and now, the flag off of the Edeoha/Ikata/Ochigba road.

Okoko said Ekpeye people were expectant that in the next few days, Wike, as action governor, would also flag off the construction of the Odioku/Odhiereke Road, Odhiemerenyi/Ihugbogo/Odhieke road and Ekpena road, which he promised the people.
