Vigilante operative kills bus driver, shoots self

A local vigilante operative (name withheld), weekend, accidently shot dead a commuter bus driver along Umoji-Nnobi Road, Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, and then shot himself.

An eyewitness said the vigilante member’s gun accidentally went off, killing the driver who was driving into a petrol station. Scared of the consequences, he shot himself.

However, another eyewitness said: “It was like the operative was under the influence of drug, because we do not know the driver’s offence.

“The operative may have realised the gravity of the offence he committed and then decided to also shoot himself.”

Vanguard learned that he was rushed to Crown Hospital Nkpor, but he could not be saved.

Confirming the incident, the Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, Hassan Musa, said: “The security man did not die eventually.

“We took him from Crown Hospital, Nkpor, to Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital, Ogidi, and I was there till 11.30p.m. in the night, he was placed on danger list and even this morning (yesterday), he is still alive and investigation is ongoing.”
