LOKOJA—Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has given approval for the establishment of a welfare scheme for widows of slain military officials that are indigenes of the state.

Bello stated this, yesterday, at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem launching in Lokoja, organised by the association of legionnaires.

He said: “I, hereby, direct the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to come up with a social support programme that will take care of widows of our fallen heroes across the 21 local government area of the state.”

Bello also donated N10 million to the legionnaires and called on individuals and corporate organisations to support the scheme.

The governor took the occasion to remember late Lt. Col. Muhammed Ali, the son of the Etsu Bassa from Kogi State, who was killed last year in Bornu State while fighting the Boko Haram terrorists.
