AWKA- MRS. Ginika Obi Okoli, a widow from Ekwulobia in Aguata local government area of Anambra State has endeared herself to the people of the area by using her resources to rehabilitate a road in her community, which for years, remained a nightmare for the people.

It is an inter-community road that links Ekwulobia with Ezinifite and Ekwulumili communities, which her late husband was rehabilitating for the communities before he died. Since the death of Chief Okoli, the people resigned to their fate until his widow decided to continue what her husband was doing for his people.

Mrs. Okoli commenced work on the road as soon as the current dry season set in, and having completed the palliative work, motorists and other road users now enjoy smooth drive and movement in the area. It was gathered that some of the people who would not have returned for the Christmas, have decided to come back since their major road has been made motorable.

Mrs. Okoli said: “The palliative work I did on that road is something that was initiated by my late husband. It’s a known fact here in Ekwulobia that when my husband was alive, he was doing palliative work on the road. The last rainy season made the road impassable and as Christmas is fast approaching, I decided to do what my husband was doing on that road when he was alive.

“The death of my husband, Chief Obi Okoli, the former MD/CEO of Ekwulobia Urban Mass Transit left the family and the people of Ekulobia devastated. His death was a heavy blow to me, my children, his extended family members and loved ones. I am only taking solace in the belief that with the worthy lifestyle he lived on earth, he is resting in heaven in the bosom of the Lord.

“His demise left a serious vacuum in my life, but God has filled that vacuum for me and my children. Honestly, the responsibilities he left behind for me and my children to shoulder are very heavy, but with God on our side, we are doing our best. That is why we have decided to continue some of the good things he was doing for his community when he was alive.”

While commending Governor Willie Obiano for providing good governance to Anambra people, she appealed to him to construct the Umuochuba-Agba Ekwulobia road, adding that the people of Ekwulobia, Ezinifite and Ekwulumili communities would remain grateful to him, if that road was done.

She said further: “As far as I am concerned, Governor Obiano is leaving up to the expectation of the Anambra electorate that voted him into power. All sectors of governance have received Governor Obiano’s attention. He started with security and you will agree with me that he has been able to tackle insecurity in the state.

“If you talk of his administration’s Agric revolution, you will also agree with me that for the first time in the history of Anambra State, farmers have become millionaires through the exportation of vegetables to Europe. You also know about Anambra rice, a stone free rice that is now the delight of every house -hold in Anambra State and Nigeria at large. That is why our people did not hesitate in endorsing him for second term.

“My sincere appeal to our people is that they should use the forthcoming 2017 governorship election to appreciate the good works of Governor Obiano. A vote for Governor Obiano in the 2017 governorship election is a vote for the continuous delivery of democracy dividend to Anambra people.”
