ABAKALIKI-GOVERNOR David Umahi Friday announced the slashing of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) tuition fees by N10,000 in order to cushion the effect of the current economic recession on students and parents in the country.
This development, according him will help parents take care children who are in the institution of higher learning.
The Governor announced this during a visit to the institution where he interacted with the management of the university community.
He also approved all promotions which had been put on hold by the government during its investigations into the running of the school.
The Governor however regretted that the school staff strength was the highest in the south East geopolitical zone adding that the present administration would seek a review in that area.
He also counseled the students against indulging in cultism and other vices pointing out the repercussions of such acts will be too grave for such students to bear.
He also announced a grant of N100 million to the university to enable it engage in agricultural ventures next year and by so doing improve the IGR of the school.
Earlier, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Francis Idike thanked the Governor for all his efforts to improve the university and promised that the university administration will work harder to sustain the achievement so far recorded. Ends
