Oil pipeline damage fuels boundary dispute in Delta communities

Controversy surrounding the oil spillage and subsequent fire outbreak on the damaged Abura Flowline in Udu council area, Delta State has rekindled the boundary dispute between Oghior and neighboring Ukpiovwin communities.A militant group, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate Group, NDGJM, had, on Monday, claimed blowing up the pipeline operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, but Oghior, one of the company’s host communities, in a swift reaction, discredited the group’s claim.In the latest reaction, neighboring Ukpiovwin is contesting land ownership of the damaged pipeline point with Oghior, rekindling a boundary dispute which has been lingering between both Udu communities. Lucky Ejenavwo who expressed the community’s position at a town-hall meeting said’’.
