By Bartholomew Madukwe

The International Press Centre, IPC, Lagos, yesterday, pleaded with the Department of State Services, DSS, to release the publisher of Policy and Lawmakers Magazine, Kogi, Mr. Friday Ogungbemi, who was picked up following a publication which allegedly criticised the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Edward Onojo.

In a statement by IPC’s Safety Alert Desk Officer, Melody Akinjiyan, the group also condemned the abduction of Mrs Yuadoo Tor-Agbidye, Controller of News, Radio Benue, at her residence, last Friday.

The Director of IPC, Mr. Lanre Arogundade, said: “Both occurrences raise more concern about the safety of journalists, which is yet to be fully addressed.

“These occurrences call for the need to further address the safety of journalists because if journalists are going to be effective in carrying out their duties, they must be assured of their safety.

“IPC, therefore, pleads for the release of Mrs. Yuadoo Tor-Agbidye who was abducted, and Friday Ogungbemi who is in DSS detention.”
