Finland midfielder Roman Eremenko has been given a two-year ban by UEFA after traces of cocaine were found in his doping sample, European football’s governing body said on Friday.

The traces were found in a sample given by the 29-year-old CSKA Moscow player following a Champions League tie with Bayer Leverkusen in September.

The 2-2 draw in that game would stand in spite of Eremenko’s significant contribution of an equalising goal.

Eremenko, who has 73 international caps, has had his ban backdated to Oct. 6 when he began his provisional suspension but CSKA said he intends to appeal the decision.

Report says cocaine is deemed to be a stimulant which is prohibited in competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
