German champions Bayern Munich played Hoffenheim on Saturday wearing shirts made from recycled plastic found in the sea off the Maldives.

“It’s a great opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the oceans,” said Bayern midfielder Xabi Alonso.

The one-off kit, designed by Adidas, couldn’t inspire Bayern to victory as they were held to a 1-1 draw.
