Lagos—Residents in waterfronts in the state yesterday, stormed the office of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State in protest against planned demolition of their abodes.

It will be recalled that barely five days ago precisely, last Sunday, Ambode issued a seven-day notice to owners of structures along waterfront to relocate as failure would attract demolition after expiration.

The ultimatum became necessary following the spate of kidnap cases perpetrated within the state said to be aided by occupants of structures on the waterfront.

The residents, who displayed placards with different inscriptions, stormed the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja with their strapped babies to express their displeasure over the planned demolition of structures on Lagos waterfront.

They claimed that the planned demolition would displace over one million residents living within the communities scattered across the state.

The protesters, representing various waterfront communities in the state, argued that they were not aiding kidnapping.
