GOVERNOR-elect of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has vowed to uplift and respect the Benin traditional institution, saying that his loyalty to the royal family is unalloyed.
Obaseki, who disclosed this in his congratulatory message to the 40th Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, expressed joy that the new Oba is coming at a time when he is expected to assume office as Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s successor, saying that he will be relying on the prayers and advise of the Oba to have a successful tenure.
It would be recalled that Governor Oshiomhole had, at the coronation of the new Oba last Thursday, assured that his successor, Obaseki, will maintain the cordial relationship he had with the palace of the Oba of Benin even better than him.
Obaseki, who would be sworn-in as governor of the state on November 12, 2016, said in his message, “for guidance and advice, I would be counting on the Oba to succeed as governor. It is particularly auspicious and most heart-warming that the events leading to the Oba’s coronation is coming at a time when I am fortunate to be the elected governor of Edo State.
“I see an Edo State where our people will leave in peace, equity and where social justice and fairness shall prevail at all times. I am proud we have an Oba who is experienced and a reputable diplomat and we will be relying on his Majesty’s wealth of wisdom to help move our state to the next level.
“I am committed to building a better, prosperous and economically sustainable Edo State based on cultural cohesion and ethical values. And I will continue to remain loyal to our revered monarch and our traditional institution” he said.
