A fight back by Ghana’s Black Maidens was thwarted by Korea DPR with a 94th-minute winner after a 1-1 deadlock in the FIFA U-17 Women World Cup in Jordan.Korea DPR will now play Venezuela in the semi-final on Monday October 17.

Ghana was the only surviving African team after Nigeria and Cameroon crashed out at the group stages. Ghana put up brave resistance but substitute Ja Un-Yong scored the winner and ended the Black Maidens’ run in the tournament.

Korea took the lead in the 12th minute from the spot after Grace Acheampong fouled Pyon Un-Gong.Kim Po-Ui made no mistake from the spot, sending Kayza Massey the wrong way with a powerful shot into the left-hand corner. Massey kept Ghana in the game and with nine minutes left to play Gifty Acheampong nipped in to glance a delicate header past Ok Kum-Ju after Asuako had lifted the ball into the Korea DPR box with an acrobatic overhead kick.

But the drama wasn’t finished yet and, with almost the last kick of the game, Korea DPR snatched the win as Ja Un-Yong stabbed into the net from close range as Ghana failed to deal with a low free-kick.
