Federation Cup: Our destiny is in our hands, says Nasarawa United defender

As Nasarawa United take on FC IfeanyiUbah today in the Federation’s Cup final, centre-back  Samson Gbadebo has vowed not to let the chance of going continental slip through their fingers.

Nasarawa United landed in their dream final after shocking defending champions Enyimba. They meet an equally title hungry FCIU at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. Gbadebo hinted that Nasarawa players will not let the opportunity of going continental pass them by, even as they have tagged underdogs in this tie.

“We have worked hard for the final clash after the cup semifinals’ hard fought victory against Enyimba in Ibadan.

“Everything is right there in our hands, it’s exactly like you win one match and you are in the continent, so we will not want to allow the golden opportunity to slip off our hands.

“The cup final is not going to be easy given the pedigree of the opposition, FC IfeanyiUbah.

“Everybody appears to have given the game to FC IfeanyiUbah even before the whistle goes off.

“Shockingly too, we are being tagged the underdogs either rightly or wrongly, we like it that way as it’s certain to bring out the very best in us.

“We remain confident and hopeful for a rewarding performance on matchday,” said the former Lobi Stars strongman to supersport.com.

Winners in the Federation Cup final will have the honour of representing the country in Africa’s second tier club competition, the Caf Confederation Cup.

FCIU captain Wilson Elu said his team will not underrate Nasarawa.

“All of us players know what is at stake in that final match against Nasarawa United, it is a game we are looking forward to. “We are working really hard, following the training programme of our coach and I believe that by the grace of God, victory will be ours,” he said.
