Chief Kingsley Esiso, is a legal practitioner and Chairman of Delta State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. In this interview, he spoke on sundry issues pertaining to Delta State and the nation. Excepts:
What is your experience since you assumed office as Delta State PDP chairman?
Since I assumed office as Delta State PDP chairman, it has been awesome. I have received the support and cooperation of all party members from the grassroots to the state executive level. As everyone is aware, PDP in Delta State is like one united family. The bond of unity that brought us together is unbreakable. We are working very hard now, particularly in preparation to reclaim power at the national level.
How would you compare and contrast former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and serving Governor Ifeanyi Okowa?
Governor Uduaghan did his best for the state. His performances are still very visible across the state. He consolidated on what his predecessor, Chief James Ibori left behind and his achievements are quite impressive.
Similarly, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is currently consolidating on what former Governor Uduaghan left behind. The performances of Governor Okowa are near magic in the state.
People are asking how he is getting the money to carry out the current giant developmental strides in the state. This is a state that was getting over N25 billion allocation from the Federal Government, today it is earning less than N4 billion, and it has a salary wage of almost N7 billion to pay monthly.
This is aside executing and completing contracts, some he met in the office, and others he awarded himself. He has improved greatly in the maternal health care system, education sector, youth empowerment through entrepreneurial skill acquisition and starter packs.
He has reinvigorated the three technical colleges in Agbor in Delta North, Sapele in Delta Central and Ofagbe in Isoko area of Delta South.
So far, he has empowered over 17,000youths. He has commissioned 50roads, two General Hospitals, in Abavo and Patani, to name only a few, and he is doing more.
What is your reaction to the recent alliance of Engr. Victor Ochei, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, and Chief Great Ogboru in the APC and the threat to take the state in 2019?
The trio of Ogboru, Ochei and O’tega in Delta State are not a threat at all to PDP, which is the party on ground in the state from the grassroots to the state level. Delta State is a PDP state and it will continue to remain so. The people love PDP because of its unity and track record of good performance in government over the years, so much, so well, that it will amount to a tall hope for any other party to think of winning in any election in the state. Certainly, that is not going to happen even in the far future in the state.
Beside those three, what of those who have been moving into APC and others leaving the APC to the PDP?
APC is dead before arrival in Delta State. Those decamping from PDP into APC or to any other political party are leaving where there is hope and food to where there is hopelessness, lack and famine. APC has not been able to handle its internal crisis in the state, it is not in power in the state and it can never be in power in the state.
Its members from beginning have been crying of marginalization and abandonment. At the national leve, it is operating with spent forces and has not even deemed it fit to recognise most of its foundation members, let alone the new ones. They are all wallowing and staggering in perpetual darkness and difficulty.
In the face of all these, someone is telling you that he has left PDP to join APC in Delta State. Is that a reasonable person? Why will someone quit where he/she is enjoying to where there is suffering of acute dimension? They have made a mistake of their life.
Those who had not got appointments should have waited for their turn. If one does not have an appointment now he will surely have later; the people are many, and it has to go around. Why should they be in a hurry? Any way, we all know those people to be men and women without standard.
What is your reaction to calls by the APC on the PDP led government to render financial account of its stewardship to the people?
We all know that they do not trust themselves let alone trust others, hence the wrangling in their midst but the masses trust us and entrusted their mandate on our shoulders.
Delta State government led by Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa is performing to the extent that those criticising him know deep down in their hearts that what they are doing is bad. They know the truth, but as I said earlier, they are people of low morale and integrity. They are known for telling lies as it is happening now at the federal level. Aside these, Governor Okowa is consistently publishing everything about the finance of the state and every good Deltan knows that. Only those displaying their follies are still demanding that from him.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State once accused Governor Okowa of recruiting milirants to disrupt the governorship election in Edo State, what do you have to say on that?
I am sure Oshiomhole was hallucinating then. I am also sure he does not know who Governor Okowa is. Why would he think that a person like Governor Okowa, who did not use militants to win his own election in Delta would descend low in another state where he is not contesting himself? Dr. Okowa has been an erudite medical practitioner before delving into politics.
His track record of self control and high level of discipline all through his career is well known to all, across the country and beyond. You and I know that he cannot descend that low. He is a fine gentle man and he is certainly too much for that. When I read that accusation coming from Oshiomhole, I became very cautious and started looking at Oshiomhole twice.
