Bauchi—No fewer than 10,107 unemployed residents of Bauchi State have registered for the Social Intervention Scheme, a Federal Government project to alleviate poverty and create employment, by training beneficiaries in agriculture, technology, education and vocational courses.

The state’s Focal Person of the scheme, Manu Soro, who stated this yesterday while addressing newsmen in Bauchi, said Federal Government earmarked N500 billion for the scheme to provide jobs for 600,000 unemployed graduates.

He said the project targets creation of 600,000 jobs, feeding of 5.5 million primary school pupils, education grants to 100,000 students, provision of soft loans for 1.66 million businesses and national cash transfer scheme to one million households.

According to Soro, the applicants include 1,350 students from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; 958 students from Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi; 265, Bauchi State University, Gadau; 1,076, College of Education, Azare, and 450, College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Misau.

Others are 862 applicants from Centre for Information Technology and Development; 676, Dan Atago, Ningi; 650, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi; 2,700, Giwo Science Academy, and 1,120, Government Science School.
