Lagos—Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Oluranti Adebule has revealed that out of over 15,000 private schools operating in the state only 4,556 were approved and duly registered.

To this end, Adebule said government has concluded plans to embark on enumeration of all registered private schools operating in the state from September 26, 2016.

She saidthis yesterday, during the Third Quarterly Stakeholders’ forum of private schools owners held at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

According to her, “Government is not comfortable with our discovery that over 15,000 private schools are operating in the state and only just 4,556 are approved and registered; Henceforth, we will no longer allow private schools not duly registered by the state Ministry of Education to operate in the state as their operation has become illegal.”

Adebule, who said a total of 119 prospective school owners that applied for registration had been granted provisional approval having met the guidelines set by the state government, warned that schools not registered or approved by the state Ministry of Education would not operate.
