Rivers LG chair’s bail application suffers another set back

By Jimitota Onoyume

PORT HARCOURT—THE bail application by former Council Chairman of Asari Toru Local Government Area, Rivers State, Mr Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, suffered another set back, yesterday, as the Appeal Court in Port Harcourt, adjourned hearing on it to September 19, 2016.

Ojukaye was arraigned for the murder of one Mr Smart Soberekon in Buguma, headquarters of the council, during the 2015 general elections. He has remained in prison custody since April this year. Efforts by his counsel, led by Mr Sebastian Hon, SAN, to secure his bail had met brick walls several times.

A newly  reconstituted regular panel of the Appeal Court led by Justice L. Garba granted an appeal by the Attorney-General of the state,  Mr Emma Aguma, SAN, for time to file briefs and consolidate two appeals before the court.
