THE lawmaker representing Warri South 1 constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, Mrs. Omawumi Udoh, has called on International Oil Companies, IOCs, operating in her constituency to employ dialogue in addressing the demands of  members of National Association of Itsekiri Graduates and Omadino community.

Udoh, who was reacting to  a peaceful protest staged at the Warri office of Chevron Nigeria Limited, by angry indigenes of Omadino community in Warri South Local Government Area of the state and National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, cautioned against dismissing their demands.

She described as an escapist excuse, the reported excuse by IOCs that the terrain in the oil producing area was difficult to develop.

Udoh said: “I call on the state and Federal Governments to compel the multinational oil companies operating in the area to urgently come to the aid of their host and transit communities.

“The people of the area have continued to suffer ecological devastation, fauna despoliation, environmental pollution, seismic hazards and scorching poverty in the light of gas flaring, oil exploration and exploitation in their backyards.”
