Following the massacre of more than 20 members of  Kodumun  community in Adamawa state by Fulani herdsmen last weekend, the state commissioner of police Mr Ghazzali Mohammed yesterday called for a joint effort of all the security agencies   in the country to contain the deadly attacks by armed herdsmen.

The Commissioner of Police who spoke in Demsa when he, alongside other security chiefs visited the paramount ruler of Batta kingdom, Chief Alhamdu Teneke to commiserate with the people over the killing lamented the inability of the police to tackle the problem alone.

He argued that  the collaborative effort of the security operatives has become more necessary now than before because the problem of Fulani herdsmen/Famers clash has now assumed a nationwide phenomenon.

The Police commissioner who later visited Kodumun community with other security chiefs for on-the-spot assessment of the crisis told the paramount ruler of the challenges the police faced before getting to the villages when the incident occurred.

Mr. Ghazzali Mohammed told the Hamman Batta that the command did its best to contain the crisis despite the difficult terrains, stressing that a detachment of anti-riot policemen has already been stationed in the troubled area to restore order.

In his response, the Hamma Batta, Chief Alhamdu Teneke, expressed disatisfaction with the way the police handled the   skirmishes which he said resulted in the heavy casualties on the part of the community.

Meanwhile, there was still tension in the community despite police assurance that normalcy had returned as the residents vowed to avenge the death of their kinsmen by killing herdsmen wherever they are found. The remains of those killed in the clash were also buried yesterday even as many residents were said to still be missing.
