PDP chieftain accuses Esogban of dabbling into politics

By Gabriel Enogholase

THE recent endorsement of APC Governorship candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki by the Esogban of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri, has drawn the ire of  former State Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Clement Edo-Osagie, who accused him of dabbling into politics and advised him to leave the Bini to make their choice.

In a statement in Benin, yesterday,  Edo-Osagie said a traditional chief of the status of the Esogban of Benin should not have viciously declared his position on the governorship race if he was speaking for the Bini. “I want to make clear to all Bini that the two candidates for the governorship election, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu are Bini and products of the palace with their loyalty to the Monarch of Bini Kingdom.

“The Esogban of Benin who is a traditional palace chief should not dabble and get immersed in sensitive political issues, which unfortunately he had taken position. A traditional chief with loyalty to the palace should not have viciously declared his position. This is democracy, he should leave the Bini as a people to make their choice as to whom to vote for. The Bini love, cherish and respect the Palace more importantly their Omo N’ Oba. “The two candidates belong to the palace and their fathers were noble chiefs to the Obas of Benin kingdom. It is rather politically obvious and naïve for anyone to sow seeds of discord among them.
