Akure—ONDO State chapter of the National Association of Government  General Medical and Dental Practitioners, NAGGMDP, yesterday, suspended its two-month old strike.

The  doctors went on strike following the state government’s inability to pay its members five months outstanding salaries.

In a communiqué issued and signed by its Chairman, Dr Dolani Gbelela, the union agreed to suspend their strike after the meeting with state government representatives, who promised to pay a month salary within the next two weeks.

Busari noted that members decided to call off the strike following an appeal from their Medical Elders and  public pressure.

The communiqué reads, “that the Ondo State government should pay at least a month salary every month.

“That the five months salary arrears should be paid on or before October 31, 2016.

“That the elders of NMA appealed to members of NAGGMDP to suspend the above withdrawal of services based on trust and compassionate grounds.”
