LOKOJA—A private investors firm, Global Holding Infrastructure Company, GHIC, has officially taken over the running of National Iron Oil Mining Company, NIOMCO, in Itakpe, Kogi State.
Governor Yahaya Bello, who revealed this in Lokoja after a meeting with the management of the company, also appealed to the communities hosting the project to support and cooperate with the investor to enable them bring life back to the company.

Bello, who spoke through the Commissioner for Finance, Idris Ashiru, said the company was expected to take charge of Itakpe and Ajabanoku mine fields serving the mining company and, by extension, Delta and Ajaokuta Steel companies, the necessary ore needed for their operations.
He said: “All arrangements had been concluded to ensure that the company commences operations and embark on due diligence today, August 2.”
Governor Bello also said that part of the agreement for the take off of the project was the renovation of the company’s expansive housing estates.
He explained that government had already put in place the necessary machinery to ensure adequate security for lives and equipment to be deployed for the successful revamping of the moribund company.
