PORT HARCOURT—Kidnappers, Tuesday night, released Dr. Reginald Ohiri, the abducted lecturer in the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, when they discovered that he was not their target.
Ohiri, a lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry in UNPORT, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen Monday night.
At press time, the victim could not be reached. But spokesperson for UNIPORT, Dr. William Wodi, said the lecturer regained his freedom Tuesday night, adding that he had also reported to school, yesterday, morning.
Wodi, who did not say if ransom was paid, noted that the victim informed him that the kidnappers said he was not their target and allowed him to go.
Wodi said: “The man has been released; he left my office a few minutes ago. He was a victim of mistaken identity. That is what he said when he came to my office.”
