A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, has warned that the judiciary was gradually becoming a great problem to Nigeria’s democracy.

Speaking in Port  Harcourt, Rivers State, while reacting to the sealing off of PDP’s convention venue in Port Harcourt by the Police, as a result of an Abuja Court order, Onuesoke blamed the judiciary for the confusion. He said a situation where a court in Port Harcourt had given approval for the convention to hold  and another court of similar power overrules same was abnormal.

According to him, “The judiciary is confusing issues. A Port Harcourt   court had given an order last week for the convention to be held, while   the  Abuja order was given only on Monday this week.   Why must an Abuja court give an order to stop the convention, when a similar court had already approved the convention? This is why I said the judiciary is the greatest problem of Nigerian democracy.”

Onuesoke alleged that the action of the Abuja court had given  those who were interested in the disorganisation and the fall of the PDP to use their power to obstruct the holding of the convention, wondering what concern the police in a party convention.

“The duty of police is to maintain peace and order and not to seal off party convention venue like the one we experienced in Port Harcourt, yesterday. Why do we not take a cue from America where Donald   Trump is abusing the seating President Obama and things are still going on as scheduled.”

Onuesoke who alleged that it was obvious that political gladiators were manipulating the judiciary against PDP, argued that what was happening   negate the period of former President Goodluck Jonathan,   where he always encourage people to obey court order,   alleging that     under   this present administration,   impunity was growing by the day, and it will get to a point where people would arm themselves with judgments from their favourite judges.
