THE new Assistant Inspector General of Police [AIG] in charge of zone 9, Umuahia, Mr. Hosea Karma, has said that the  police will set up committees in the States under the zone to handle the problem of clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the various communities.

The AIG also said that he would check the excesses of the police both in the office and on the highways, as directed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Speaking to journalists yesterday in his office, AIG Karma charged officers and men of the commands in the zone to ensure that members of the public trust them in the discharge of their duties. According to him, it is when the public have confidence in the police that they would cooperate and assist them to fight crime.

Karma promised to replicate the security networking deployed in Anambra State where he served as Commissioner in the zone and also set up a committee to handle herdsmen and farmers clashes, which he said was a national challenge.

“When we settle down we will sell the idea of vigilante group in the communities to the various state governments in the zone”, he explained.

Commenting on the Eminent Persons Forum (EPF), introduced the new IGP, Karma explained that “the primary aim of the Eminent Peoples Forum is to bring policing closer to the people. It is not completely a new idea, we have the PCRC, they are doing a wonderful job and that is part of Eminent Peoples Forum.”
