Bauchi—Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, has faulted moves by the National Assembly to regulate activities of civil society organisations, CSOs, in the country, saying the role of CSOs is not to fight government but to proffer solutions to problems.

The Programme Officer of CISLAC, Chioma Kanu, who stated this during an interview in Bauchi, said the proposed bill regulating activities of CSOs might not augur well for the country.

Kanu said: “Everybody needs to understand the role of CSOs in the community to appreciate their relevance.

“Regulating the activities of CSOs will be tantamount to making them deviate from performing their duties of correcting, commending and assisting government to achieve its goals.”
