The 82nd birthday of the Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, was unique as scores of people converged on his Ijegba forest abode for the celebration. Soyinka was born on July 13,1934. The low key celebration was organised by Zmirage and featured lectures to highlight some of the vices plaguing the country while proffering solution. The annual Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange (WSCIE) was the seventh edition which had as its overall theme: ‘Corruption: a Battle for the Arts’.

THE Administration of Ahiara Catholic Diocese, Mbaise, Imo State, has deplored the invasion of the Cathedral by the Imo State Police Command, which it said unleashed a violent attack on a large number of the Catholic faithful who had gathered seeking God’s intervention in the long-festering bishopric crisis in the diocese. This follows the allegation made by the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu that youths of the diocese set up bonfires, barricaded the highway and disrupted the peace of the town when the national president of Catholic Women Organisation, CWO, Mrs. Agnes Erogunaye, visited St. Rose Catholic Church, a parish in the diocese.

Jubilation rented the air among civil servants as Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi presented keys of 100 housing units to junior civil servants drawn from the 17 local government areas of Enugu State who had won the houses through an open ballot exercise.
