GOVERNORSHIP candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State September 10 poll, Mr Godwin Obaseki, said, yesterday, that Governor Adams Oshiomhole has done well in education, road construction and infrastructures, saying if he is voted in as governor, his administration will focus more on human development.
Meanwhile, Oshiomhole says the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, will be the easiest person to beat at the polls. The governor, however, explained that the party will adopt a new message in the event that factional candidate, Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, becomes the candidate of the party, following the Federal High Court ruling that recognized Ali Modu Sheriff as the authentic National Chairman of the PDP.
He pointed out that founding leaders of the PDP were dumping the PDP for the APC due to the emergence of Ize-Iyamu, saying: “For us, we are done with Ize-Iyamu because he cannot be governor. Edo people have left for Isreal and they cannot go back to Egypt”.
The factional crisis rocking the PDP at the national level is taking a toll on the party in Edo as more founding members of the party are set to dump the party for the APC.
Sunday Vanguard learnt that some of the notable leaders of the PDP, who may soon pitch their tenth with the APC, include Senator Ehigie Uzamere, who recently resigned from the PDP, Chief Clement Edo Osagie and Victor Edos Ebomoyi.
Some founding leaders of the PDP in Edo South, led by Chief Samson Esemuede, a former Vice Chairman of PDP in Oredo Local Government, Mr I.K Ebomoyi, and over 2,000 of their supporters dumped the party last week for the APC.
Addressing APC supporters at Afuze and Sabongida Ora, Owan East and Owan West local government areas, yesterday, Obaseki said: “ The College of Physical Education is now a degree awarding institution. I will make sure we put more money into the college to make it a world class physical education university. As part of our job creation, we will create jobs even from sports. Comrade has done well in the last seven and half years but we have a lot to do.
“We have focused on education, health, roads and water, but we will now focus more on human development. We want to create 200,000 jobs for our youths.
“The jobs we will create in Owan is not only from agriculture. We will create jobs through mining.
“There are over 25 mining licenses in Owan East and we are collaborating with the Minister of Solid Minerals to make sure we invite investors here. In the next one year, we will bring investors to Owan East”.
