Prof. Clark
By Bartholomew Madukwe
Foremost poet and playwright, John Pepper Clark, also known as J.P. Clark, has called on the youths to cultivate reading habit.
The poet, who spoke at a time-out with him, organized for him by Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association, GCUOBA, Lagos branch, enjoined his listeners to always ask questions in consonance with traditions of Government College Ughelli – ‘the society at large and about life itself.’
According to him, he read all the books in the school library in his secondary school days at Ughelli.
Lagos Branch President, Olorogun Clement Djebah, in his welcome address, noted that other prominent Ancient Mariners would be celebrated annually, after a random selection.
Popular Nigerian Comedian, Bovi Ugboma; former Miss Nigeria, Queen Celestine and Mr. Pesi Francis of GCUOBA were also present at the event.
JP Clark’s poems were read by Victor Eromosele, Gordons Egbedi, Roy Odoko, Col. David Binitie, Jonathan Denedo, and Richard Mofe-Damijo popularly known as RMD.
In his vote of thanks, GCUOBA’s Lagos Vice President, Cyril Ogude, described the event as a day to remember.
